Box Office Results
There were 4 new releases at the box office. There were three champs and one chump. Gran Torino in which Clint Eastwood starred and directed, easily cruised into the top spot over the weekend with $29 million in its first weekend in wide release. This is Clint Eastwood’s best debut since 2000’s Space Cowboys, which debuted making $18 million.
Bride Wars came in second with over $21 million beating out the new horror flick The Unborn. I’m glad that Bride Wars did well because I’m interested in seeing this movie. The weekend’s other new release, Not Easily Broken flopped. It debuted at number 9 with over $5 million. I thought it would do better than this because it looks like it can be really good. I guess it didn’t get the promotion it needed to do better.
After being number one for two weeks, Marley & Me dropped to the fourth place with $11.4 million, bringing its total to $124 million. Coming in right behind Marley & Me was Brad Pitt’s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button ($9.4 million). The movie is now $6 million shy of the $100 million mark. I didn’t think Brad Pitt’s movie would make that much money.
Surprisingly, Valkyrie is still hanging on in the top 10. I don’t know how much longer it will be there, but it’s still there. Golden Globe best drama winner Slumdog Millionaire just missed the top 10 at No. 11 with $3.7 million. Its total now sits at $34 million. It was number 10 last week. You would think the press from the Golden Globes would have made the movie do better. Here are the top 10 movies
