Gone Country Season 3 starts Saturday, January 24, 2009 on the CMT channel.  There are a new batch of contestants who want to make country music.  Here are the 7 contestants vying to go country:

Sheila E. – She is a singer and a drummer.  She used to sing with singer Prince and has released albums.  She also starred in the movie Krush Groove and was the musical director on Magic Johnson’s talk show.

George Clinton – He is a funk singer with colorful hair.  I am not really familiar with his music, but I do know who he is.  He was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.

Micky Dolenz – He was the drummer in the group the Monkees.  I remember seeing him on the TV show Boy Meets World.  He also has a daughter who’s an actress named Ami Dolenz.

Tara Conner – She is a former Miss USA in 2006.  She’s not known for anything other than being a party girl.  I don’t even know if she can sing.

Richard Grieco – He is best known for 21 Jump Street and Booker.  He has also done direct to dvd movies as well as voiceover work for commercials.  I didn’t realize that he was a singer.  I have never heard him sing before.

Justin Guarini – He is best known for losing to Kelly Clarkson in season 1 of American Idol.  He also starred in the movie From Justin To Kelly.  He went from singing on American Idol to singing on Gone Country. 

Taylor Dayne – She is an 80s pop star whose hits include “Tell It To My Heart” and “Love Will Lead You Back.”  She tried to re-invent herself on another reality show, but I guess it didn’t work since she’s on this show.

All of these “celebrities” must really need the exposure to do this.  Most of the singers have to get out of their genre of music just to do this show.
