Box Office Results
Paul Blart: Mall Cop held on to the top spot for another weekend. It made over $21 million at the box office. It is on its way of passing the $100 million mark. It has mad $64.8 million in its two weeks. The third installment of the Underworld series Underworld: Rise of the Lycans was a close second with just over $20 million. I haven’t seen any of these movies so I don’t know if they are any good. The other new release Inkheart starring Brendan Fraser, didn’t do well at the box office. It debuted at number 7 with just over $7 million. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button returned to the box office after dropping out of the top 10 last week. It re-entered at number 9. Slumdog Millionaire moved up in the top 10 five spaces to number 5 with over $10 million. It has opened up in wider release. It opened up in more than 1400 theaters. I guess the Oscar nominations for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Slumdog Millionaire helped the movies at the box office. Oscar buzz also helped The Wrestler and Frost/Nixon even though they didn’t make it in the top 10. Marley & Me finally fell out of the top 10 after being there for more than a few weeks
Here’s the list of the top 10 movies:
- Paul Blart: Mall Cop - $21.5 million
- Underworld: Rise of the Lycans - $20.7 million
- Gran Torino - $16 million
- Hotel for Dogs - $12.4 million
- Slumdog Millionaire - $10.6 million
- My Bloody Valentine 3-D - $10.1 million
- Inkheart - $7.7 million
- Bride Wars $7 million
- The Curious Case of Benjamin Button $6 million

Wow, so Mall Cop was number 1. DH said he thought it did not get very good reviews. Hmm too see or not to see. I was just reading this and he is laughing at the fact it was number 1!
I love horror movies, dania so I will try and check out My Bloody Valentine.
I thought that Mall Cop got bad reviews too, cindy. I’m also surprised that it was still number 1. Not because it doesn’t look good. I thought that it wouldn’t have lasted at number 1 since most movies drop after the first weekend.
I’m not suprise about Mall Cop. I was expecting fans of his television show to transfer over to his movie. I am suprise to see my Bloody Valentine on the list. Ech…
LOL @ your comment about My Bloody Valentine, cmaher. I haven’t seen that one yet so I don’t know whether or not it’s any good.
Wow, Slumdog Millionaire made more than it’s previous week. Probably because of the Oscar nominations!
I think that’s why it made more money too, dratiffarid. The more recognition it gets, the money it will make.
It has released in India on 23rd…I am waiting eagerly to watch the movie.
I hope you get a chance to see the movie. I saw a commercial for the movie a couple of days ago. It’s weird that it’s the first time I saw it considering how long the movie has been out.
I hate watching horror movies espescially ones with so much blood and gore like My Bloody Valentine. Some of these results are bizare it is strange how they come up with the results. A lot of the time films get hyped up and are then dissapointing. Keep writing my friend!
All the best

I don’t mind seeing the horror movies. Sometimes they are too gory though. I’m looking for a movie to really scare me. I agree with you about the hype that movies get. There are times when the movies don’t live up to the hype they get.
