Image Awards Winners

Beyonce opened up the show with her new single “Halo”.  I wonder if something happened backstage.  She looked like she was fighting back tears while she was performing.

Outstanding Leading Actress in a Drama Series

Chandra Wilson – Grey’s Anatomy

Outstanding Leading Actor in a Drama Series

Hill Harper – CSI NY.  I was a little disappointed because I was hoping that Blair Underwood would have won this award.

Best New Artist

Jennifer Hudson – I am happy that she won this award.  I figured she was going to win.

Outstanding Leading Actor in a Comedy Series

Lavan Davis – House of Payne.  I think he’s pretty funny so I’m happy that he won.

Outstanding Leading Actress in a Comedy Series

Tracee Ellis Ross – Girlfriends.  I was surprised she won since Cassie Davis’ co-star on House of Payne was announced as the winner of the lead actor award.

Outstanding Male Artist

Jamie Fox.  That’s good that he won the award.  I guess they weren’t going to give it to Chris Brown since he was in this category too.

Outstanding Female Artist

Beyonce – It was a little bittersweet because I was hoping that Mariah Carey would win.  I thought that her speech was a little tacky considering what happened to Jennifer Hudson’s family.  Beyonce talked about how lucky she was to have her family.  She singled out her mother, her sister, and her nephew in particular.  There’s nothing wrong with thanking her family, but it seemed a little tacky to me.  I hope she wasn’t trying to rub it in that she still has her family and Jennifer doesn’t.  With that said, it’s good that she won even though I wanted Mariah to win.

Will.I.Am performed during the tribute to Al Gore and Professor Wansari Maathai.  They won the Chairman’s Award.

Outstand TV Drama

Grey’s Anatomy.  I don’t watch this show so I didn’t have any feelings about this win either way.

Outstanding Comedy

House of Payne.  I watch this and Everybody Hates Chris so I would have been happy about either show winning.

Outstanding Lead Actress in a TV Movie

Phylicia Rashad – Raisin In the Sun.  It was good that she won because she did a good job in the movie.

Outstanding Lead Actor in a TV Movie

Sean Combs – Raisin In the Sun.  When he was shown in the audience a lot, I had a feeling he would have won this award.

Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture

Columbus Short.  I thought he did a good job in Cadillac Records.

Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture

Taraji P. Henson.  I thought that Jennifer or Beyonce would win.  I didn’t see Taraji’s movie so I wasn’t sure she would win.

Seal did a tribute to all the influential people in the world as well as people who have passed away.

Vanguard Award went to Russell Simmons.

Muhammed Ali received the President’s Award.  Jennifer Hudson performed a tribute to him.

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Motion Picture

Will Smith.  I wasn’t surprised that he won the award.  He usually wins when he’s nominated.

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Motion Picture

Rosario Dawson won the award.  I thought Queen Latifiah was going t win.  Is Rosario feuding with Kimberly Elise?  She didn’t hug Kimberly when she went on stage.

Outstanding Motion Picture

The Secret Life of Bees won the award.  I didn’t expect the movie to win the award.  I thought Seven Pounds would win.

Stevie Wonder performed “Black Man” which closed the show.

I noticed how everyone was very good not to mention the Chris Brown/Rihanna news.  I figured somebody would have said somethng about it.    They mentioned Barack Obama becoming president, but no one mentioned Chris and Rihanna.
