Box Office Results

watchmen.jpg

There’s a new champ at the box office.  The new movie Watchmen debuted at number one at the box office.  It made over $55 million at the box office this weekend.  The movie is a comic book adaptation about a team of twisted superheroes.  It’s the biggest opening in 2009 so far.  I should warn you that Watchmen is about 2 hours and 45 minutes long. I think that’s a little long for a movie, but that’s just my opinion.  I’ve read a couple of bad reviews about it, but I guess that didn’t stop people from watching the movie.  I haven’t seen the movie yet so I’m not sure if it’s any good.

Last week’s box office champ Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes To Jail slipped to number two with over $8 million.  The numbers were good for second place.  I’m surprised it made that much considering how much Watchmen made over the weekend.  Last week’s number two movie Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience dropped all the way to number nine with over $2 million.  I guess their fans didn’t really want to see it that much after the first week.  Taken is still holding on in the top three. It took in over $7 million.  Since the movie has been released, it has stayed within the top five.  I guess I better check this movie out.

Slumdog Millionaire came in at number four with over $6 million.  Paul Blart: Mall Cop came in at number five with over $4 million.  I’m not surprised that it’s still hanging on because Paul Blart: Mall Cop was really good.  The other movies that came out when it did aren’t still in the top 10 anymore.

Here’s the top 10 movies:

  1. Watchmen - $55.7 million
  2. Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes To Jail - $8.8 million
  3. Taken - $7.5 million
  4. Slumdog Millionaire - $6.9 million
  5. Paul Blart:  Mall Cop - $4.1 million
  6. He’s Just Not That Into You – $4 million
  7. Coraline - $3.3 million
  8. Confessions of a Shopaholic - $3.1 million
  9. Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience - $2.8 million
  10. Fired Up - $2.6 million

I am not too interested in seeing Watchmen, but I really wanted to see Taken this weekend. I saw the previews when I was at the movies recently. It looks good! However, I was not feeling great! :( Maybe next weekend.
