Golden Girls Star Dies
I have some very sad and shocking news to report. Bea Arthur has passed away. Bea Arthur was best known for her roles on Golden Girls and Maude. She was 86 years old. She died in her home this morning. She suffered from cancer. Cancer seems to be taking away a lot of celebrities. A lot of them seem to die from cancer. There’s no word of what she died from, but I will keep you all posted when I find out the info.
Bea Arthur was born Bernice Frankel on May 13, 1922. She started her career doing theater work before she moved on to television and movies. She got her big break on television in 1972 when she got her own show named Maude. She played the title character. Her character was first introduced on All In The Family. Maude was a groundbreaking TV show. It lasted for six seasons. She won an Emmy on the show.
Bea’s other big break happened in 1985 when she starred on the Golden Girls. The show lasted seven seasons. Bea also won an Emmy for this show. In case you all didn’t know, Bea didn’t want to play the role of Dorothy Zbornak. Rue McClanahan (Blanche on the Golden Girls) had to convince her to do the show. It’s a good thing that she did since I can’t see anyone else playing the part.
Bea was divorced twice in her lifetime. She is survived by her two sons Matthew and Daniel and a sister.
I still can’t believe that she’s gone. I watch Golden Girls all of the time and it’s going to be so weird to watch it knowing that she’s gone. It’s bad enough that we lost Estelle Getty (Sophia) last year, but now we’ve lost one more Golden Girl. My heart goes out to all of Bea’s family and friends as well as all of her fans. She will really be missed.

How sad! I had not heard this yet. I really liked her she was a great actress.
I was just going to check my email and there it was. I really love that show and I’m glad that Rue convinced her to play the part because I can’t picture anyone else doing it either. Yeah cancer does seem to be taking celebs away since Kim Manners too died of cancer. A shame but at least we get to enjoy her on Golden Girls although it might be odd. I get a little choked up when I see Josh while watching Passions.
It seems like all the great actors and actresses are dying. It isn’t fair. I used to watch this show, but we don’t get it in the UK any more. I used to love it. Maybe I can get some episodes on Youtube.
Thank you for reading my post, Mickie. I agree that it seems like a lot of actors are dying. It’s so sad. Maybe you can buy Golden Girls on DVD.
