Julia Roberts was beat at the box office by the apocalypse. Knowing starring Nicholas Cage debuted at number one at the box office making over $24 million. Knowing is about an astrophysics professor who figures out how to predict monumental catastrophes. I wanted to give a little backdrop about the movie in case you were like me and never heard of it. I didn’t even know the movie was out until last night. I thought Julia Roberts’ movie Duplicity would have come in at number one since she was practically all over promoting the movie. The movie came in at number three making over $14 million. I guess a lot of promotion didn’t necessarily help the movie make any money since it didn’t debut at number one.
Another new release was I Love You, Man starring Paul Rudd and Jason Segel. It’s a buddy comedy. It came in at number two with $18 million. I was surprised that this even beat Julia’s movie. I figured that this one would have come in at number 3 or 4. I didn’t expect it to debut at number 2.
Last week’s number one movie Race To Witch Mountain slipped to number four with $13 million. Last week, I made a prediction about where this movie would end up. I figured it wouldn’t be number one for very long and I was right. It managed to go from one to four. I will make another prediction about Knowing. I don’t think it will hold up the top spot for long. If it does remain number one, I predict that the numbers will drop at least by 40% or more.
Taken, Slumdog Millionaire, Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes To Jail, and Coraline are still holding on in the top 10. Watchmen and The Last House On The Left are also still holding on in the top 10. I have a feeling that some of these that are still in the top 10 will not be there next week.
Here is the list of the Top 10 movies:
- Knowing – 24.8 million
- I Love You, Man – 18 million
- Duplicity – 14.4 million
- Race To Witch Mountain – 13 million
- Watchmen – 6.7 million
- The Last House On The Left – 5.9 million
- Taken – 4.1 million
- Slumdog Millionaire – 2.7 million
- Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes To Jail – 2.5 million
- Coraline – 2.1 million

There’s a new number one movie at the box office. The Rock took down the Watchmen this weekend. Race To Witch Mountain came in at number one at the box office making $25 million. Watchmen came in at number two with over $18 million. It lost more than 67% in ticket sales from last week. I guess it didn’t make a very lasting impression on the audience if the numbers for the movie were going to drop that much. Movies like this don’t usually stay at number one for very long. They usually drop after the second or third week. This would make one more movie that didn’t stay at number one very long. I’m trying to keep track of how long the number one movie will stay number one. I want to make a prediction about Race To Witch Mountain. I predict that the movie will stay number one for this week and maybe next week (depending on what is coming out this week), and then it will drop.
There were two other wide releases this weekend. The Last House On The Left and Miss March debuted this weekend. The Last House On The Left came in at number three with over $14 million. I’m glad this movie had a good debut because I’m going to try and see it. It looks like it could be really good. Miss March didn’t fare as well as The Last House On The Left. The movie came in at number 10 with over $2 million.
Here are the Top 10 movies:
- Race To Witch Mountain - $25 million
- Watchmen - $18.1 million
- The Last House On The Left - $14.7 million
- Taken - $6.7 million
- Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes To Jail - $5.1 million
- Slumdog Millionaire - $5 million
- Paul Blart: Mall Cop - $3.1 million
- He’s Just Not That Into You - $2.9 million
- Coraline - $2.6 million
- Miss March - $2.3 million

There’s a new champ at the box office. The new movie Watchmen debuted at number one at the box office. It made over $55 million at the box office this weekend. The movie is a comic book adaptation about a team of twisted superheroes. It’s the biggest opening in 2009 so far. I should warn you that Watchmen is about 2 hours and 45 minutes long. I think that’s a little long for a movie, but that’s just my opinion. I’ve read a couple of bad reviews about it, but I guess that didn’t stop people from watching the movie. I haven’t seen the movie yet so I’m not sure if it’s any good.
Last week’s box office champ Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes To Jail slipped to number two with over $8 million. The numbers were good for second place. I’m surprised it made that much considering how much Watchmen made over the weekend. Last week’s number two movie Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience dropped all the way to number nine with over $2 million. I guess their fans didn’t really want to see it that much after the first week. Taken is still holding on in the top three. It took in over $7 million. Since the movie has been released, it has stayed within the top five. I guess I better check this movie out.
Slumdog Millionaire came in at number four with over $6 million. Paul Blart: Mall Cop came in at number five with over $4 million. I’m not surprised that it’s still hanging on because Paul Blart: Mall Cop was really good. The other movies that came out when it did aren’t still in the top 10 anymore.
Here’s the top 10 movies:
- Watchmen - $55.7 million
- Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes To Jail - $8.8 million
- Taken - $7.5 million
- Slumdog Millionaire - $6.9 million
- Paul Blart: Mall Cop - $4.1 million
- He’s Just Not That Into You – $4 million
- Coraline - $3.3 million
- Confessions of a Shopaholic - $3.1 million
- Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience - $2.8 million
- Fired Up - $2.6 million

Madea ruled the box office again. She beat the Jonas Brothers this weekend. Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes to Jail was number one with over $16 million. It dropped quite a bit from its opening weekend, but it still held on to the number one spot. I finally got the chance to see Madea Goes to Jail and I thought it was really good. I’m not surprised that it was number one again. Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience came in at number two with over $12 million. It’s the second biggest opening for a concert film since Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert. I’m surprised that it didn’t come in at number one since it’s been highly publicized. I figured Madea Goes to Jail would have fallen to number two. I guess the Jonas Brothers were not match for Madea this weekend.
Slumdog Millionaire came in at number three with over $12 million. The movie has made over $115 million dollars. It’s the biggest post-Academy Awards weekend for a Best Picture Oscar winner in 10 years. That was quite a jump for the movie. It’s really capitalizing off of its Oscar win. The other wide release Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li came in at number eight with over $4 million. I don’t watch movies like this so I probably won’t be checking it out.
Here is the list of top 10 movies:
- Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes to Jail – 16.5 million
- Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience – 12.7 million
- Slumdog Millionaire – 12.1 million
- Taken – 9.9 million
- He’s Just Not That Into You – 5.8 million
- Paul Blart: Mall Cop – 5.6 million
- Coraline – 5.2 million
- Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li – 4.6 million
- Confessions of a Shopaholic – 4.4 million
- Fired Up! – 3.8 million

There’s a new sheriff in town. There’s a new box office champ this week. Her name is Madea. Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes to Jail opened up at number one this weekend. It made over $41 million. It’s the highest grossing Tyler Perry movie since Tyler Perry’s Diary of a Mad Black Woman, which debuted, with $30 million. It’s also the highest grossing movie for Lionsgate studio in its 14-year history. The studio’s previous top opening was 2006’s Saw 3 which debuted at $33.6 million. I’m glad that Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes to Jail debuted at number one. I saw the play version of it and it’s really good. I’m pretty sure the movie is even better. I can’t wait to see this one. I’ve seen Tyler Perry’s other movies and I enjoyed them too. Taken is holding steady in the number 2 spot with over $11 million. In the four weeks since it’s debut, Taken has made over $95 million. Last week’s number one movie Friday the 13th slipped down to number 6 with over $7 million. I guess people weren’t interested in seeing this movie past the first weekend. Madea slayed Jason this weekend. The other new release Fired Up debuted at number 9 with $6 million. I guess there weren’t too many people who wanted to see another cheerleader movie. You’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all.
The Academy Awards helped boost ticket sales for the Best Picture nominees. Slumdog Millionaire moved up to number 5 with over $8 million. The movie has grossed $98 million. The Reader earned over $2 million bringing it’s total to $23.2 million. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button took in $1.3 million bringing its total to $124.2 million. Milk made $1.1 million bringing it’s total to $28.2 million. Frost/Nixon made $678,000 bringing it’s total to $17.4 million. With Slumdog Millionaire winning the Academy Award for Best Picture, I wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up being the number one movie soon. These movies have all been nominated for Best Picture, but I still haven’t seen any of them yet.
Here are the Top 10 movies for the week:
- Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes to Jail - 41.1 million
- Taken – 11.4 million
- Coraline – 11 million
- He’s Just Not That Into You – 8.5 million
- Slumdog Millionaire – 8.1 million
- Friday the 13th – 7.8 million
- Confessions of a Shopaholic – 7 million
- Paul Blart: Mall Cop – 7 million
- Fired Up – 6 million
- The International – 4.5 million

There’s another new champ at the box office. Jason slayed the competition this Valentine’s Day weekend. I guess people wanted to see people murdered instead of watching rom-coms this weekend. Friday the 13th was number one with over $42 million. It’s made $45 million since it opened. It also delivered the top-grossing opening for a horror remake and for a slasher movie and is on course for the second highest President’s Day weekend debut ever behind Ghost Rider. Adjusted for ticket price inflation, though Scream 2, Scream 3 and Freddie vs. Jason had higher initial attendance, and, unadjusted for inflation, there have been bigger horror openings, including I Am Legend, Signs and The Village. Last week’s number one movie He’s Just Not That Into You fell to number two with just over $23 million. It didn’t lose that much money considering it was competing with Friday the 13th . There were two other new releases this weekend. Confessions of a Shopaholic starring Isla Fisher came in at number 5 with just over $17 million. The International starring Clive Owen and Naomi Watts came in at number 7 with over $11 million. The International had a bad debut considering it’s an action thriller. I thought it would have done better than it did. I guess it was no match for Jason. With the success of Friday the 13th, I think we should expect more horror movie remakes. There’s already talk that there might be a remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street. If there is a remake, I think that they should make sure they get Robert Englund to play Freddie Kruger again. There isn’t an actor in Hollywood who can play the part the way he can in my opinion
Here are the top ten movies:
- Friday the 13th – 45.2 million
- He’s Just Not That Into You – 23.4 million
- Taken – 22.2 million
- Coraline – 19.1 million
- Confessions of a Shopaholic – 17.3 million
- Paul Blart: Mall Cop – 13.2 million
- The International – 11 million
- The Pink Panther 2 – 10.5 million
- Slumdog Millionaire – 8.72 million
- Push – 7.93 million

There’s a new number one movie at the box office. It seemed that more people were interested in romance than action this past weekend. He’s Just Not That Into You is the new number one movie at the box office with over $27 million. He’s Just Not That Into You stars Jennifer Aniston, Ben Affleck, Scarlet Johansson, Drew Barrymore, and Jennifer Connelly. This is Jennifer Aniston’s second number one movie in two months. Last week’s number one movie Taken dropped to second place with just over $20 million. It has made $53.4 million in 10 days. The movie lost just 18 percent from its debut. Top films can often drop 50 percent or more in their second weekend. Luckily for Taken it only dropped 18 percent.
There were three other new releases besides He’s Just Not That Into You that cracked the top 10. Coraline came in at number three with over $16 million. It is an animated film with Dakota Fanning and Teri Hatcher. Dakota Fanning’s other movie Push came in at number 6 with over $10 million. Push also stars Mariah Carey. The Pink Panther 2 came in at number 4 with so so numbers. It made $12 million. The first Pink Panther made $20 million. I guess not that many people wanted to see Steve Martin as the Pink Panther. I didn’t really care that much for the first one so I most likely won’t be checking out the sequel. Slumdog Millionaire is still hanging on in the top 10. It made over $7 million. It has grossed over $77 million. It has passed the movie Sideways to take second place on Fox Searchlight’s list of highest grossing films behind Juno at $143 million. It’s got a ways to go before it catches Juno.
Here are the top 10 movies at the box office:
- He’s Just Not That Into You – 27.5 million
- Taken – 20.3 million
- Coraline – 16.3 million
- The Pink Panther 2 – 12 million
- Paul Blart: Mall Cop – 11 million
- Push – 10.2 million
- Slumdog Millionaire – 7.4 million
- Gran Torino – 7.2 million
- The Uninvited 6.4 million
- Hotel for Dogs – 5.8 million

There’s a new number one movie at the box office. Taken has taken over the top spot at the box office. Taken is a CIA thriller starring Liam Neeson. In Taken, Liam tries to find his daughter who was kidnapped by people who want to sell her as sex slave. It made over $24 million at the box office. Last week’s number one movie Paul Blart: Mall Cop dropped to number two. It made $14 million. Two weeks must be the cut off point for movies staying in the number one spot. If Taken is number 1 next week, it will probably drop by its third week.
One of the new releases The Uninvited debuted at number three. This is a horror movie about a girl who finds out that her stepmother isn’t who she seems to be. It made over $10 million. The other new release New in Town debuted at number eight with over $6 million. This movie is about a businesswoman who adjusts to a life in a small town. This was not a good debut for Renee Zellwegger. I figured it would have had a better debut than it did. I guess more people were willing to see a horror movie than a romantic comedy.
Here are the top 10 movies at the box office:
- Taken - $24.6 million
- Paul Blart: Mall Cop – $14 million
- The Uninvited $10.5 million
- Hotel for Dogs - $8.7 million
- Grand Torino - $8.6 million
- Slumdog Millionaire - $7.7 million
- Underworld: Rise of the Lycans - $7.2 million
- New in Town - $6.7 million
- My Bloody Valentine - $4.3 million
- Inkheart - $3.7 million

Paul Blart: Mall Cop held on to the top spot for another weekend. It made over $21 million at the box office. It is on its way of passing the $100 million mark. It has mad $64.8 million in its two weeks. The third installment of the Underworld series Underworld: Rise of the Lycans was a close second with just over $20 million. I haven’t seen any of these movies so I don’t know if they are any good. The other new release Inkheart starring Brendan Fraser, didn’t do well at the box office. It debuted at number 7 with just over $7 million. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button returned to the box office after dropping out of the top 10 last week. It re-entered at number 9. Slumdog Millionaire moved up in the top 10 five spaces to number 5 with over $10 million. It has opened up in wider release. It opened up in more than 1400 theaters. I guess the Oscar nominations for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Slumdog Millionaire helped the movies at the box office. Oscar buzz also helped The Wrestler and Frost/Nixon even though they didn’t make it in the top 10. Marley & Me finally fell out of the top 10 after being there for more than a few weeks
Here’s the list of the top 10 movies:
- Paul Blart: Mall Cop - $21.5 million
- Underworld: Rise of the Lycans - $20.7 million
- Gran Torino - $16 million
- Hotel for Dogs - $12.4 million
- Slumdog Millionaire - $10.6 million
- My Bloody Valentine 3-D - $10.1 million
- Inkheart - $7.7 million
- Bride Wars $7 million
- The Curious Case of Benjamin Button $6 million
- Notorious - $5.7 million

There’s a new number one movie at the box office. Paul Blart: Mall Cop starring Kevin James. It made over $30 million. This is Kevin’s third number one movie. The other two were Hitch with Will Smith and I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry with Adam Sandler. Last week’s number one movie Gran Torino fell to number 2 by only 25 percent with over $20 million. Three other new releases debuted in the top 5. My Bloody Valentine 3-D opened at number 3 with over $20 million and Notorious opened at number 4 with over $20 million. For more on Notorious, check out my article Violence Surrounding Notorious Movie. Hotel For Dogs came in at number 5 with over $17 million. Golden Globe winner Slumdog Millionaire is back in the top 10 coming in at number 10 with over $5 million. The movie will expand to more than 1200 theaters next weekend. It has made $42.7 million in 10 weeks. t was a good weekend at the box office since the top 5 movies made no less than $17 million.
